Baer’s Double-Double Leads Chargers to 4th Straight Victory

Freshman forward Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) recorded his first career double-double and the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team shot a season-high 58 percent from the field in a 92-72 victory over Knox JV on Wednesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
The Chargers (18-6) earned their fourth straight win after shooting 62 percent (21 of 34) in the first half and 38 of 66 from the field for the game.
KEY MOMENTS
- Tied at 27 with 9:00 left in the first half, Sandburg went on an 11-0 run for a lasting lead. Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) kicked off the surge as James Jones (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) found him for a corner 3-pointer. The Chargers maintained their 11-point lead at halftime, 51-40.
- The Chargers held the Prairie Fire scoreless for nearly 5 minutes while going on a 13-0 run to open up a 69-44 lead with 11:30 to go. Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) fed Baer for a layup to begin the run, which also featured consecutive steals-and-baskets by Jones. The closes Knox JV got the rest of the way was 78-66 at 2:40 before a 12-0 Sandburg run.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Baer led the Chargers with 20 points and a season-high 10 rebounds for the first double-double of his collegiate career. The 6-foot-10 forward finished 9 of 13 from the floor, highlighted by three dunks.
OTHER TOP CHARGERS
- Jones had 12 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists off the bench.
- Gowan also scored 12 in addition to grabbing four rebounds and picking up three steals.
- Fayhee scored 11, had four rebounds and led the Chargers with six assists.

- Kyle Schipper dropped a game-high 33 points, including eight 3-pointers.
